2011 is almost over and I realized that is time to get the 2012 calendars ready. From feedback I know, that many reader are giving them away as Christmas gifts.

How to Print & Assemble the Calendar

• The finished calendar is about 3 inches
• Use card thickness paper not office paper to print on
• The template is created to print to fit to a page on US lettersize or A4 paper. A4 paper calendars will be a little smaller than those printed on US lettersize paper due to the fact that the paper is narrower.
• Here are the instructions on how to assemble the calendar

wall hanging from beads

We had bought those bead car seat covers, but they did not last very long and started to fall apart. There were constantly loose beads in the car. So I packed it way in a bag for future use.

• One day I had this great idea. I disasembled the whole thing and sorted the beads according to color. Then I sat down on the floor and laid out the beads in a pleasing pattern. Once I liked it, I threaded the beads on string and attached a round curtain ring at one end.
• Then I strung the individual strands on a curtain road which I have hung up on my suspended ceiling and now I have a beautiful wallhanging/room divider.
• I created this in 1998 and now that I have moved to a different house, it is hanging on a wall. 

Original Bra Card

With summer coming to an end it is time to move this post from the old site to here. I found this bra/bikini top card just to cute.

When I saw this card template I just to play around with it and come up with my own version. Unfortunately, I do not remember where I got it from. If anybody knows, please let me know so that I can give that person credit or link to their site.

First I created a card with the design cut out from magazine pages.

Then I saw ATCs that opened like windows and that gave me the idea for an ATC with the design empbroidered on.

Next I had to try it with just paper. I created the design in my graphics program and printed it.

chenille figure

I made this figure to fit into my computer nerd glass jar roombox.

After some experimentation with size I figured a way to make some 2-inch tall sitting figures (1/24 scale).

Body

• cut a 5-inch piece off a chenille stem.
• with plyers make small loop at each end of the piece.
• fold in half so that it is now about 2-inches tall (figure 1).
• now to make the figure sit down measure from the feet up ¾-inch and make a bend for the knee next measure ½-inch up (the thighs) and make a bend in the opposite direction you’re now left with an upper body that’s about 1-inch tall (figure 2)

Arms

• cut a 3½-inch piece off a chenille stem
• with plyers make a small loop at each end.
• make a small bend in the center of the piece
• place the piece behind the body piece and wrap each arm around the corresponding body side from the outside to the inside and behind. This makes the arms stay put. next make a bend at the elbow about ½-inch from the hand (figure 3 above).

Head and Hair

• for the head I used a small wooden bead for the hair is used some lambs wool I had lying around.
• I threaded it through the bead before I pushed the bead onto the body. That kept it in place. Now the hair sticks straight up and I didn’t want that, so I glued it down.

Clothes

• My next problem was dressing the figure. Then I remembered that I had seen a pattern on the web for pants. I saved the pattern to my harddrive and opened the file in my graphics program. Click on the images below to save them. Devant = front, Dos = back
• place the pattern on the fabric, mark it and then cut it out and sew it together.
• The shirt is very simple to make I folded a piece of fabric in half so that the fold was the shoulders and cut a small circle for the neck and some arms.

For a 1/12 scale figure double all the measurements.

After making the floppy disk room box while washing dishes I had an idea of using an empty jar to make micro roombox. My jar has a diameter of 3½ inches and is about 4 inches tall. My figure and furniture is about 1/24 of human scale.

How I made it

• In an Ikea catalog I found the desk I was looking for.
• I scanned it and reduced it in my graphics program and made it look like wood.
• I did the same with the chair.
• Then I printed it out on light cardboard paper and cut it out and laminated the desktop.
• I left the chair the way it was.
• Next I glued the pieces onto thicker cardboard.
• For the legs I used round toothpicks.
• The desk’s legs are 1-inch tall and I used some triangular bead with a larger hole to stabilize the legs.
• The chair’s legs are ¾-inch tall.
• For the computer I used the design on Jim’s Printable Minis page .
• The mouse pad is a piece of blue craft paper and the mouse is a 1/8-inch hole punch from white craft foam.
• I was trying to figure out what to use for the floor. So I went on search and ended up at a marble site used the pattern I found there. I also laminated the top of the floor to make it look all shiny. The floor is a 2½-inch circle.
• To give me more wall space I decided to place the desk in a corner and have a wall. As this is for my son who has just returned from New York after living there for 2 years I thought it would be neat to have that as the view.
• On the outside I used French Posters that my son likes.
• Next I had to create some figure to sit at the computer. I used a chenille stem as the armature.
• To raise the whole scene I cut a 1½-inch ring from a cardboard tube and covered it with black felt and then wrote the name of the scene on a piece of paper and glued it around it.
